The ability to succeed socially is essential to good mental and emotional health. Many children struggle to make and keep friends. This affects their confidence and may lead to anxiety and depression. Occupational therapists can teach these children social skills, and social skills groups allow them to practice these skills in a supportive and non threatening environment. Children can then interact better with classmates and peers in a natural setting.
Social skills are those communication, problem-solving, decision making, self-management, and peer relations abilities that allow one to initiate and maintain positive social relationships with others.
Deficits or excesses in social behavior interfere with learning, teaching, and the classroom’s orchestration and climate. Social competence is linked to peer acceptance, teacher acceptance, inclusion success and post school success.
We provide social skills training via one-on-one sessions and group sessions. The groups are conducted by our psychologists, counsellors, and teachers. We make sure to bring together children of similar age groups and skills.
Do you have a child who learns in different way? Your family and friends find it’s hard to understand you? We are here for you to listen and support.
